Re: New Well & Septic Reporting Requirements to Obtain a Certificate of Occupancy

The Kalamazoo County Department of Health and Community Services – Environmental Health Division (“HCS-EHD”) oversees the approval and inspection of private septic and well installations and alterations.  The HCS-EHD is seeking to better coordinate with building departments in their jurisdiction to ensure that septic and well installations are inspected and approved prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy or demolition permit.

Effective immediately, contractors will be required to submit copies of the septic and/or well inspection approvals from the HCS-EHD before a certificate of occupancy will be granted.  This does not apply to projects which connect to public water and/or public sewer.
